POSTURE ASSESSMENT

20 Minutes

One of the amazing benefits of the Pilates’ technique is the elongated body you achieve which has you not only looking exceptional, but most importantly feeling exceptional. In the Pilates Studio, it’s intelligent to address postural problems before doing anything else to get the most value out of the work you do. Muscles, bones and joints have a design and purpose, and exercising in misalignment with the wrong muscle patterning can result in injuries to the thoracic and lumbar spine over time.

Postural assessments look at your static posture to see if there are any deviations or imbalances in your body. Poor posture can have consequences that can result in dysfunction, aches and pains, tension, fatigue and headaches. Ideal posture allows your body to function at its best as it moves and distributes weight evenly and appropriately allowing the muscles, joints and spine to work together to help us move effortlessly.

After completing a postural assessment, we will be able to identify which muscles are overactive (or ‘short and tight’) compared to those that are underactive (or ‘long and weak’), and seek to correct the underlying faults in your movement. The Pilates exercises will therefore be strategically targeted to correct your weaknesses which will assist you towards getting the maximum benefits from your workout.

NEURO-PILATES

Pilates for Neurological Conditions

Neuro-Pilates is a scientific based method of applying Pilates for the purpose of neurological rehabilitation. It is a specialised Pilates program that can help with a safe and functional workout.

If you have a condition or injury affecting your brain, spinal cord or nerves, your co-ordination and ability to effectively move the body is impacted. The effects will cause muscle weaknesses and imbalances, stiffness and tightness of these muscles, and loss of motor control for planning and implementation of movement.

MORE INFORMATION

Pilates helps relearn your movement and build stability and coordination back into your body whilst creating new neurological pathways in your brain. Simple, safe and effective exercises assist you in regaining strength, balance and control back into your body and mind. Movements are initially slow and deliberate, building relaxed body awareness from your center to achieve focus, stability, mobility and strength.

If you or your child has sensory processing issues you will understand that a body not aware and comfortable within its environment can be overwhelming and debilitating, both physically and mentally. The Pilates integrated movement and sensory awareness training can have a profound ability to organise and regulate the sensory systems. Pilates benefits the Vestibular system and proprioceptive sense in every form, and when slowly integrating the other senses – visual, auditory, tactile – into a centered body and mind, one can utilise this approach as a significant tool of confidence and regulation. In a comfortable environmental setting, awakening the final senses and integrating them all together can help release tension, and produce calm, composed bodies and minds.

Breathing strategies and exercise brings much needed oxygen and circulation, also providing consistency and strength in order to assist in the management of the condition.
