Pilates was therefore overwhelmingly-embraced by elite ballet dancers and Ballet companies, starting from when Joseph Pilates began working with the New York City Ballet. Since then, Ballet companies and schools around the world utilise his method and many have Pilates Equipment within their premises. Thus, this is a huge contributor to Shannon’s very successful international dance career.

Pilates is the perfect complement to your dancing regardless of discipline. It strengthens and lengthens the muscles, and improves coordination of breath and movement. A good teacher will encourage a holistic approach which engages the mind’s awareness of your body and its responses.

Elite dancers relish the Pilates Method as practice allows a dancer to not only achieve peak performance, but at the same time prevent injury. Daily classes sustain a dancer’s career, helping them to gain an edge over weaknesses and technical challenges whilst prolonging their careers.

Dancers require a strong core, flexibility, and balanced muscles, and Pilates provides a functional and accessible facility to utilise and achieve ultimate artistry. This is simply what Pilates is without confusion or trying too hard. Pilates exercises provide the means to build balanced coordinated strength and thus the ability to make hard work look graceful and easy, turning dance into a science and art for freedom of expression.

What makes dancers truly amazing is to have the ability to be in a juxtaposition at all time times by being controlled yet agile, supported yet fluid, strong yet flexible, placed yet lengthened, grounded yet defying gravity, independent (oneself) yet corps de ballet (part of a group).

Classes can be arranged in groups or privates in our studio or at your school. Class times are from 50 minutes to 2 hours.
